Details
Anthropic’s Fellows Program funds and mentors technical talent to work on empirical AI research projects with the goal of producing a public output (e.g., a paper). This posting is for the Economics workstream within the Fellows Program. The next cohort starts July 20, 2026; apply by April 26, 2026 for that cohort. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the program runs for 4 months full-time.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an empirical research project aligned with Anthropic’s research priorities, using external infrastructure (open-source models, public APIs, public datasets).
- Design and conduct empirical research on AI's economic effects, including impacts on labor markets, skill formation, and societal outcomes.
- Develop methodological approaches for studying AI’s impact on economics and societal outcomes.
- Work closely with assigned mentors, participate in weekly meetings, and produce a public output (e.g., a paper submission).
- Communicate results clearly, including writing up findings even when results are null or unexpected.
Requirements
- Must be fluent in Python programming (explicit requirement).
- Available to work full-time on the Fellows program (expectation: 40 hours/week for the 4-month program).
- Must have work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada and be located in that country during the program (Anthropic cannot sponsor visas for fellows).
- Strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics is expected (through coursework, training, or experience).
- Interest or background in economics or societal-impacts research is a plus.
- Ability to implement ideas quickly, collaborate in fast-paced environments, and clearly communicate research findings.
Compensation & Logistics
- Weekly stipend: 3,850 USD / 2,310 GBP / 4,300 CAD per week (expectation of 40 hours/week for 4 months).
- Funding for compute and research expenses (~USD 15,000 per month of compute funding provided).
- Access to shared workspaces in Berkeley, California or London, UK; Anthropic is also open to remote fellows in the UK, US, or Canada (applicants should indicate availability to work from Berkeley or London full- or part-time).
- The program duration is 4 months full-time; extensions may be possible in some cases.
- Anthropic is not able to sponsor visas for Fellows; you must have or obtain work authorization independently for the UK, US, or Canada.
Interview process
- Initial application and reference check, technical assessments and interviews, and a research discussion.
- Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification. Strong performance during the program may lead to consideration for full-time roles, though offers are not guaranteed.
How to apply
- Apply via the Constellation application form (link provided in the posting). The next cohort starts July 20, 2026; apply by April 26, 2026 to be considered for that cohort. The program accepts applications on a rolling basis for later cohorts as well.
Mentors & Example Projects
- Potential mentors for the Economics workstream include Maxim Massenkoff and Peter McCrory.
- Example projects include empirical studies on AI’s impact on skill formation and model stress-testing research; past Fellows have produced papers and public outputs.
