Details
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The team includes researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
Role summary
As a member of the Applied AI team you will be a pre-sales architect and trusted technical advisor to the UK and Northern Europe public sector, with a primary focus on UK Central Government departments, executive agencies, and arm’s length bodies (and reach across devolved administrations, local government, the NHS, and Northern European public sector markets). You will help organisations understand the value of Claude and design how they can integrate and deploy Claude into their technology estates to modernise operations, improve policy delivery, and transform citizen services. You will combine deep technical expertise with customer-facing skills to architect LLM solutions that address mission challenges while meeting safety and reliability standards.
Working closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Partnerships teams, you will guide customers from technical discovery through deployment, help customers develop evals, and design scalable, compliant architectures that maximise value within public sector constraints.
Annual Salary: £165,000 - £190,000 GBP
Responsibilities
- Partner with account executives to understand customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions aligned to departmental outcomes and policy objectives.
- Serve as the primary technical advisor to public sector customers throughout the Claude adoption journey (discovery, evaluation, deployment). Coordinate internally across multiple teams and stakeholders to drive customer success.
- Support customers building with Claude Code, the Claude API, and Claude for Enterprise.
- Create and deliver technical content for varied audiences — from engineering deep dives to business-value conversations with senior civil servants and C-suite executives.
- Guide technical architecture decisions and help integrate Claude into existing technology stacks in alignment with NCSC guidelines, Cyber Essentials Plus, Government Security Classifications framework, the Technology Code of Practice, and the Service Standard.
- Help customers develop evaluation frameworks to measure Claude’s performance for their specific use cases.
- Identify common integration patterns across the UK public sector and feed insights back to Product and Engineering teams.
- Travel frequently to customer sites across the UK (and occasionally Northern Europe) for workshops, technical deep dives, and relationship building.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the latest LLM capabilities and implementation patterns.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with UK public sector organisations (particularly UK Central Government departments, executive agencies, or arm’s length bodies) is desirable.
- Active UK Security Check (SC) clearance, with willingness and eligibility to be put forward for higher levels of clearance (e.g., DV) where required.
- 5+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, or Technical Account Manager.
- Experience navigating complex public sector buying cycles involving multiple stakeholders (commercial teams, digital and technology leadership, policy owners, SROs).
- Familiarity with UK public procurement routes and frameworks (e.g., G-Cloud, AI Dynamic Purchasing System, Digital Outcomes, Crown Commercial Service agreements) is preferred; experience working with systems integrators and delivery partners is valued.
- Exceptional ability to build relationships and communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including senior civil servants, C-suite executives, engineering, and IT teams.
- Strong technical communication skills; ability to translate customer requirements between technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience designing scalable cloud architectures and integrating with enterprise systems.
- Comfortable with Python and familiarity with common LLM frameworks and tools, or a background in machine learning or data science.
- Excitement for cross-organisational collaboration, working through trade-offs, and balancing competing priorities.
- A love of teaching, mentoring, and helping others succeed.
Logistics
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
