Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) Thematic Strategy Research Associate will work on leveraging predictive data analysis and other data solutions to build market-leading intelligence in thematic investing. The role involves management, augmentation and implementation of large datasets to generate insights, and conducting research that combines fundamental, technical and quantitative analysis. The role partners with BI Thematic Strategists and other Bloomberg teams to produce written analysis, interactive charting and functions published on the Bloomberg Terminal.

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the team’s standard research activities including data work, written research, and idea generation.
  • Write and interpret sophisticated SQL queries for standard and ad hoc data mining purposes.
  • Engage in high-level data analysis and continuously assess data quality; identify errors and inconsistencies and correct or flag issues as needed.
  • Build engaging visualizations of analyzed data to depict outcomes.
  • Educate other analysts on completed work to integrate outputs into standard deliverables.
  • Research, develop and implement new methods of measuring and analyzing BI’s proprietary thematic datasets across public equities, ETFs, and private companies to support identification of macro perspectives and trends across investment themes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal Bloomberg departments and external users.
  • Interact with clients via Bloomberg’s online messaging systems.
  • Participate in department-wide special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (STEM with heavy programming emphasis preferred).
  • Fluent in at least one major scripting language (examples given: Python, SQL).
  • 2+ years of experience applying data skills to answer targeted business questions.
  • Ability to understand and draw conclusions from underlying datasets.
  • Research experience in equity strategy or economics, focused on using data to drive insight development and research deliverables.
  • Understanding of finance/accounting concepts with experience interpreting financial statements and performing quantitative financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with equity market indices and econometric data sets.
  • Interest in financial markets and a career in macro research.
  • Ability to address multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; strong written communication, presentation skills and collaboration track record.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrable research and analytical skills; ability to meet deadlines, logically address problems and set priorities.
  • Dedication to enhancing and developing products.
  • Legal authorization to work full-time in the United States and will not require visa sponsorship now or in the future (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident/green card holder, refugee, asylee).

Nice to have

  • Previous experience with the Bloomberg Terminal.
  • High-level proficiency in econometric and statistical modelling.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Finance, Accounting, MBA, or related discipline.

  • Salary Range: 90000 - 120000 USD annually plus benefits and bonus.
