Details
xAI is looking for Civil Engineering Tutors to support AI training and data curation efforts. The role involves using proprietary software to provide input and labels, collaborating with technical staff to train new tasks and improve annotation tools, and delivering high-quality curated data. Tutors are expected to interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on provided instructions and to communicate findings clearly.
Responsibilities
- Use proprietary software applications to provide input/labels on defined projects.
- Support and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data.
- Contribute to the training of new tasks, working closely with technical staff to ensure successful development and implementation of initiatives and technologies.
- Interact with technical staff to help improve the design of efficient annotation tools.
- Interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on given instructions.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a highly related field.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English (informal and professional).
- Strong ability to navigate information resources, databases, and online resources.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational capabilities.
- Solid reading comprehension and the capacity to exercise autonomous judgment with limited data/material.
- Passion for technological advancements and innovation.
- For personal-device work: Chromebook, Mac with macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Substantial professional experience solving real-world problems in civil or environmental engineering.
- At least one publication in a reputable journal or outlet.
- Previous AI tutoring experience.
- Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
- Experience in technical writing, journalism, or a professional writing setting.
- Professional background as a civil or environmental engineer.
Location and Other Expectations
- Roles may be full-time, part-time, or contractor positions depending on needs and fit.
- Contractor hours vary widely by project scope and availability; on average many projects may involve at least 10 hours/week to achieve deliverables, though this is not a fixed commitment. Contractors have flexibility to set their own hours.
- Tutor roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role-specific needs.
- For US-based candidates, the company cannot hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois.
- The company is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
Compensation and Benefits
- US-based candidates: $45/hour - $75/hour depending on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International candidates: information provided during recruitment.
