Tikkie is seeking a motivated Master Thesis Internship – Conceptual Design of AI‑Driven Detecting Financial Crime.

This thesis internship focuses on research and conceptual design within an existing financial crime detection context. The goal is to explore how AI‑based approaches could complement and further strengthen current capabilities for detecting financial crime, resulting in a well‑founded theoretical design suitable for future implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct academic research on detecting financial crime and AI applications in a payments context
  • Gain a high level understanding of financial crime challenges and existing detection approaches
  • Translate research insights into clearly defined AI related problem statements
  • Design a conceptual AI driven approach for detecting financial crime that builds on existing measures
  • Describe the conceptual model, decision logic, and high level system interactions
  • Assess feasibility, limitations, and ethical considerations
  • Document research choices, assumptions, and outcomes in a Master thesis

Working environment

You will be part of Tikkie, a digital payments platform operating at scale within ABN AMRO.

As a consumer‑facing payments product, Tikkie continuously evaluates how technology and data‑driven solutions can be used to maintain and enhance safe, reliable, and user‑friendly payment experiences, including capabilities related to detecting financial crime.

This is a hybrid internship. You are expected to work from the office at least two days per week, with flexibility to work remotely on the remaining days.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a WO Master's program in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Interest in fraud, risk management, and data driven decision making
  • Ability to structure academic research and work independently
  • Comfortable translating theory into practical, high level concepts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Curious, critical, and open to feedback
  • Available for approximately 5 months
  • Enrolled in a Dutch educational institution for the full internship period
