Information about the position

As a Decision Scientist in Buyer Intelligence, you will become part of the Buyer domain with a mission to improve our search engines, product categories, discovery channels, and listing journeys. You will join a small group of Decision Scientists in our Intelligence Team and the company-wide science and analytics guild. Your focus will be on leveraging data to ensure that the Buyer domain is moving in the direction of greatest positive impact.

Buyer Intelligence is the data analytics and science hub for the domain. The team is composed of decision scientists and analytics engineers who support different teams in the Buyer domain with data insights, research, and data products. These efforts enable faster experimentation and product development. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-changing environment, is willing to switch contexts by contributing to the domain’s goals and projects based on priorities, and is passionate about the product we are building together.

  • Analytics Engineers are responsible for data curation – translating data needs from stakeholders into architecting, building and maintaining efficient & reliable data models and pipelines.
  • Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision making.
  • Data Scientists are responsible for identification of algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion and design, development and maintenance of production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms.

In this position, you’ll

  • Collaborate with your team and direct stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities, answer key business questions, and improve and maintain data products
  • Analyse identified opportunities to understand their scope and impact
  • Propose and implement key metrics that measure business performance, set up monitoring, and proactively flag issues
  • Ensure requests are answered in an optimal manner (e.g., in the form of an ad hoc deep dive, experiment, dashboard, or automatically recurring analysis)
  • Contribute to company-wide forecasting of core business metrics
  • Enable your team and direct stakeholders to independently leverage data for business insights via self-service and dashboarding tools (i.e., Looker)
  • Help create a backlog with prioritised hypotheses and analyses

About you

  • Entry to intermediate experience in the field of data analytics, typically 2+ years of work experience or equivalent proficiency
  • Fluent in SQL and working experience in Python
  • Statistical proficiency, including A/B testing and regression analysis
  • Analytically curious with strong business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Highly results-oriented and comfortable with iterative processes
  • Experience with dashboarding tools such as Looker, Tableau, etc.
  • Excellent at communicating in written and spoken English
  • Advantage: Working experience with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, dbt, etc.
