Information about the position

We are building a payments organisation that moves billions of euros across our markets, and that helps us scale anywhere globally through an ecosystem of payments providers, compliance and regulation controls, ensuring the right payment experience along the way.

As our new Decision Scientist in the Data Science & Analytics department (Payments domain), you’ll help us create a reliable, ultra low cost payments service by facilitating data driven decision making and solving complex data problems. You will be part of a cross-functional product team working alongside Product Manager and Engineers. You will report to the Team Lead of Data Science & Analytics (Marketplace Payments).

We’re looking for someone who likes to work in a fast-changing environment, and is passionate about the product we’re building together: payments processing happens in the background, largely invisible to our members, yet it is an ultimate friction point if gone wrong.

  • Analytics Engineers are responsible for data curation – translating data needs from stakeholders into architecting, building and maintaining efficient & reliable data models and pipelines.
  • Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision making.
  • Data Scientists are responsible for identification of algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion and design, development and maintenance of production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms.

In this position, you’ll

  • Be your partners’ primary point of contact to provide answers to (strategic) business questions
  • Ensure these questions are answered in an optimal fashion (e.g. in the form of an ad hoc deep-dive, experiment, dashboard, or automatically recurring analysis)
  • Analyse payments data to develop a full understanding of the payment friction points and drivers (failure reasons, payment processing events, fraud friction, etc.)
  • Select important KPIs for the team, track and forecast their performance over time
  • Enable stakeholders to independently leverage data for business insights via self-serving and dashboarding tools (Looker)
  • Collaborate with your team and stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities
  • Analyse identified opportunities to understand their scope and impact (i.e. size opportunities)
  • Communicate with multiple stakeholders in the Payments domain (Product, Engineering, Finance, Strategic partnerships, etc.)

About you

  • Demonstrated working experience as a Decision Scientist, Data Analyst, or other role with a strong data component (typically 2+ years of working experience or similar activities resulting in a similar level of proficiency).
  • A good communicator who can present complex topics clearly and persuasively to different audiences
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and business skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A degree in statistics, physics, econometrics, economics, business or a similar field
  • Statistical proficiency (e.g. A/B testing, regression analysis)
  • Proficient in SQL and in a statistical programming language (Python, R, etc.) as well as BI tools (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Advantage: experience working in a tech company or in a cross-functional product development team
  • Advantage: Experience working in the payments industry
