Details

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Database Engineer to join Collibra’s Product & Database Reliability Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, scalability, and reliability of our database systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, providing technical leadership, and implementing best practices to enhance the overall efficiency of our database infrastructure.

This is a hybrid role based in Collibra's Raleigh office. The hybrid model requires working from the office at least two days each week.

Responsibilities

  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize database performance through monitoring, tuning, and query optimization to ensure optimal response times and efficient resource utilization. Collaborate with engineering teams to brainstorm and assist with resolution.
  • Right Sizing: Conduct capacity planning and forecasting to anticipate future database requirements and ensure scalability. Automate sizing and scalability processes.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks, scalability problems, and data inconsistencies. Analyze observability data to identify patterns, trends, and potential performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to understand application requirements and provide guidance on database-related concerns.
  • Automation: Implement automation for repetitive tasks and performance monitoring to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. Develop and maintain automated solutions for continuous workload analysis at scale.
  • Best Practices & Documentation: Define best practices for database architecture, configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent related working experience (advanced degree preferred).
  • Proven experience as a Database Performance Engineer or similar role with at least 3–5 years of hands-on experience.
  • Expertise in PostgreSQL and proficiency in SQL.
  • Basic knowledge of GraphDB, Kubernetes, and Linux is a plus.
  • Professional experience with cloud hosting platforms such as AWS and GCP; preference for candidates with managed database experience.
  • Knowledge of database architecture, replication, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Because this role supports the US government, the candidate must be a US citizen who resides on US soil.

Measures of success

Within the first month:

  • Familiarize with existing database infrastructure and engage with cross-functional teams.

Within the third month:

  • Contribute to performance optimization, capacity planning, and automation efforts.

Within the sixth month:

  • Contribute heavily to database configurations, implement best practices, and help develop automated workload analysis solutions.

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $104,000 - $130,000 per year.
  • Position is not eligible for additional commission-based compensation.
  • In addition to base salary: equity ownership opportunities, bonus potential, a Flex Fund monthly stipend, pension/401(k) plans, and more.
