Details
GitLab is looking for a Director, Enterprise Architecture and AI Intelligent Automation (IA) to define and govern how internal systems connect, integrate, and evolve to support a rapidly scaling business. Reporting to the VP, Business Systems, this role leads Enterprise Architecture, Integration, & RPA teams, sets architectural standards and governance frameworks, and balances long-term strategy with hands-on technical leadership. The role is remote for candidates in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive enterprise architecture strategy, setting principles and patterns for how internal systems connect, integrate, and scale across platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Zuora, Workato, and other core business applications.
- Establish and lead an Architecture Review Board, partnering early with system owners and project teams to shape technical approaches and ensure alignment with enterprise standards and business objectives (including applying frameworks such as TOGAF).
- Design and govern integration architectures and data flow patterns, including API-first approaches, point-to-point integrations, data warehouse and reverse ETL models, in partnership with Data Governance and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Create and execute a cohesive automation strategy spanning agentic AI, robotic process automation (RPA), and traditional integration technologies; define decision frameworks for tool selection and rationalize existing investments.
- Reduce shadow IT and software sprawl by implementing software governance processes, centralizing fragmented solutions, eliminating redundant capabilities, and reducing technical debt and unnecessary spend.
- Ensure enterprise, integration, and IA architectures meet SOX compliance and security requirements, including access controls, data governance, and audit-ready integration patterns.
- Align decentralized system roadmaps with enterprise architecture strategy, identify and address technical debt, and provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship to Integration, RPA, and IA Engineering teams.
Requirements
- Extensive experience defining and governing enterprise architecture in complex, matrixed organizations across core business systems (ERP, CRM, CPQ, billing, financial platforms).
- Deep technical background across integration, automation, and AI, with the ability to contribute directly to design discussions and problem solving with Architecture, Integration, and RPA teams.
- Expert-level knowledge of data modeling, integration architecture patterns, API design, and microservices architecture; experience designing integration strategies that support operational and analytical use cases.
- Strong experience establishing and leading architecture review boards or similar governance frameworks; ability to balance partnership-oriented engagement with clear, enforceable standards.
- Demonstrated success in reducing shadow IT and software sprawl through software governance and portfolio rationalization.
- Deep understanding of SOX compliance, internal controls, and security architecture for business applications; experience designing audit-ready integration and automation patterns.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills; ability to engage VP and C-level stakeholders and translate complex architectural concepts into clear business language.
Team and Working Model
The Enterprise Architecture team designs, governs, and evolves the internal technology landscape that powers GitLab’s business.
