Groq is looking for a Director, Government Relations to architect and lead our government relations function from the ground up. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will serve as Groq’s chief ambassador to policymakers, regulators, and relevant government stakeholders at national, state, and local levels in the United States and around the world. You will work closely with the executive team to shape and execute Groq’s public policy strategy, drive engagement on emerging legislative and regulatory issues, and amplify Groq’s thought leadership in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design, launch, and scale Groq’s global government relations strategy in alignment with enterprise objectives and values.
  • Serve as the key advisor to Groq’s executive leadership on public policy trends, risks, and opportunities relevant to Groq’s business.
  • Build, sustain, and elevate relationships with key policymakers, government agencies, and relevant industry associations; represent Groq at meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Develop and execute Groq’s positions on legislative and regulatory matters.
  • Identify, engage, and oversee relationships with external government relations vendors, consultants, and counsel to amplify reach and expertise.
  • Craft policy briefings, testimony, external communications, and responses to regulatory inquiries with clarity, accuracy, and impact.
  • Partner across functions — Legal, Engineering, Operations, Communications, and Sales — to ensure alignment and readiness on legislative and regulatory developments.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, or federal/state government affairs, ideally with exposure to technology and/or semiconductor sectors.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and scaling an advocacy function, preferably within a high-growth technology company.
  • Established relationships with decision makers and leadership in key federal and/or state agencies, congressional committees, and relevant industry consortia.
  • Experience managing outside consultants and vendors.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. public policy, legislative and regulatory processes; global policy experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in law, public policy, or related field preferred.
  • Proven ability to think critically and strategically, align government relations strategies with company business goals, and manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment with limited direction and at times imperfect information.
  • For U.S. job postings: candidates must meet certain citizenship or residency criteria to comply with U.S. export control laws and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Candidates must qualify as U.S. Persons for export control purposes or otherwise be eligible for an applicable export license.
