Details
The Checkout team is responsible for Airbnb’s Checkout online APIs and user experience across all platforms. The team enables guests to seamlessly complete a booking and ensures Airbnb's core transaction is fast, trustworthy, and conversion-optimized. This role leads a full-stack engineering team working on end-to-end booking flow: pricing presentation, payment processing, booking confirmation, and related mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the organizational and technical direction of the Checkout team and connect the team's work to broader company initiatives.
- Develop and communicate a clear technical vision and priorities in collaboration with cross-functional partners in Product, Marketing, Design, Data Science, Payments, Trust, and Pricing.
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing full-stack engineering team of ~10–14 engineers; drive hiring, feedback, and career development.
- Maintain a high bar for engineering quality across design, code review, and production; nurture reliability and scalability for mission-critical systems.
- Implement execution frameworks for planning, tracking, early problem detection, and reporting on team work.
- Drive cross-team alignment and influence partner teams to deliver high-impact outcomes.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering management experience and 8+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
- Proven track record leading teams that operate large-scale, mission-critical production systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across engineering organizations and cross-functional partners.
- Passion for building intuitive, delightful products while maintaining a high technical quality bar.
- Experience growing engineers through promotion, scope expansion, or career changes.
Preferred qualifications
- Expertise building and operating booking-related systems such as transactional systems, payment flows, or high-availability APIs.
- Experience evolving large systems through incremental migration strategies while maintaining product velocity.
Location
This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with your manager. You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Offices: United States.

Compensation & Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $212,000—$265,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Final base pay is dependent on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands.
