At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The CXAI Engineering team within Consumer Engagement and Experience (CEE) is focused on transforming how customers interact with crypto support by delivering fast, accurate, and secure resolutions using Generative AI. This role leads the development of an AI-powered Automated Resolution platform that combines internal LLM-driven agents with third-party integrations to understand complex issues, securely retrieve context, and take meaningful actions across on-chain and in-app environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead AI strategy and execution for a conversational AI stack, advancing from decision trees to LLM-driven reasoning, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and agentic workflows.
- Orchestrate the AI ecosystem: integrate third-party AI solutions and scale in-house LLM infrastructure to handle high-stakes crypto support queries.
- Build evaluation frameworks and guardrails (LLM-as-a-judge) and establish feedback loops to measure accuracy, grounding, and regulatory compliance.
- Implement agentic automation enabling AI agents to perform secure actions (e.g., transaction troubleshooting, account recovery) via internal APIs.
- Drive technical architecture decisions around vector databases, prompt engineering, and context window management to personalise user experiences.
- Ensure operational excellence: reliability of AI services, latency optimisation, token cost management, and robust fallback mechanisms to human agents.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years leading high-performing teams in fast-paced environments.
- Proven hands-on AI/ML leadership: experience shipping products powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), including prompt engineering and fine-tuning.
- Experience building RAG pipelines and managing the data lifecycle required to ground AI in real-time knowledge.
- Platform mindset: experience building scalable, distributed systems and integrating AI components into high-traffic production environments (examples given: Go, Ruby, or similar).
- Experience with quantitative evaluation frameworks to measure hallucination rates, accuracy, and customer sentiment.
- Deep understanding of security and safety practices for AI (guardrails to prevent PII leakage and inappropriate financial advice).
Nice to haves
- Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus) and AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex).
- Experience in FinTech or Crypto and navigating regulatory/compliance requirements.
- Background in NLP or traditional Machine Learning prior to the Generative AI boom.
- Proficiency in Golang and experience with modern cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes).
Compensation and logistics
- Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): INR 9,424,500 — INR 9,424,500.
- Role is remote within India; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites (attendance expected and supported).
