Details
Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company with more than 20M users of Grafana and more than 3,000 customers using Grafana Cloud and Grafana Enterprise Stack. The Observability department enables developers to understand the health and performance of their applications and infrastructure by providing tools to instrument code, ingest observability data into Grafana Cloud, and visualize and explore it.
Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It leverages open-source projects such as Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope.
Alloy is a distribution of the OpenTelemetry Collector designed to collect, process, and export telemetry signals at scale. Alloy combines ecosystems like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Loki, Pyroscope, and more and is maintained as an open source project on GitHub.
This is a remote position. Candidates should be located in the NASA (EST-only) or EMEA time zones. The posting lists Republic of Ireland (Remote) as a specific location. Compensation range for the ROI market is EUR 117,000 - EUR 141,120 (actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset). Responsibilities
- Manage and develop the Alloy engineering team, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth through conversations and coaching.
- Support the Alloy team in collaborating with the OpenTelemetry Collector community and help remove roadblocks to that collaboration.
- Collaborate closely with go-to-market, product, and engineering leadership to ensure customers and prospects are successful with Alloy and that Alloy fits into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
- Provide guidance through the project lifecycle from ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch to deliver high-quality results consistently.
- Foster a psychologically safe environment that encourages learning, experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement.
- Work across team boundaries, contributing to projects outside the teamโs scope and partnering with other functions to solve customer problems.
- Encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development practices and support the teamโs use of AI coding assistants within security guidelines.
Requirements
- Domain knowledge in observability and OpenTelemetry sufficient to manage a team collaborating closely with the OpenTelemetry Collector community.
- Comfortable managing autonomous engineering teams and balancing technical and product-focused decision-making.
- Strong people and relationship management skills, with an ability to align stakeholders and elevate team performance.
- Comfortable collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment, using clear, empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety.
- Deep customer focus, grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
- Curious and comfortable using AI-powered tools; practical experience integrating AI-assisted tooling into a teamโs workflow is desirable.
