Details

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company building observability tools used worldwide. The Observability department enables developers to understand the health and performance of applications and infrastructure by providing tools to instrument code, ingest telemetry into Grafana Cloud, and visualize and explore it. Alloy is Grafana Labs' distribution of the OpenTelemetry collector for collecting, processing, and exporting telemetry at scale.

This is a remote position. The hiring team is looking for candidates in the NASA (EST-only) or EMEA time zones. In Spain, the base compensation range for this role is EUR 94,000 - EUR 117,500. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset. Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable), and other benefits listed on the company careers page.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a distributed team of Alloy engineers (EMEA and NASA time zones), providing regular feedback and supporting each person’s growth through career conversations.
  • Support the Alloy team’s collaboration with the OpenTelemetry collector community and address roadblocks to upstream contribution and community engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with go-to-market, product, and engineering leadership to ensure Alloy fits into the end-to-end user experience for Grafana Cloud products and to support customer success.
  • Provide guidance throughout project lifecycles from ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch, guiding the team to deliver high-quality results consistently.
  • Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, iterate, and innovate; encourage continuous improvement.
  • Work across team boundaries, contributing to projects outside the team’s scope and partnering with other functions to solve customer problems.
  • Encourage pragmatic use of AI-assisted development tools within security guidelines and a company-funded usage budget.

Requirements

  • Domain knowledge in observability and OpenTelemetry sufficient to manage a team collaborating closely with the OpenTelemetry collector community.
  • Comfortable working with autonomous engineering teams and aligning technical and product decisions where needed.
  • Keep up-to-date with technical trends to understand the challenges teams face; solid understanding of distributed systems principles including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
  • Comfortable collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment, using clear, empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance to deliver meaningful, high-quality results.
  • Deep customer focus, grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted tooling and a willingness to fold AI-powered tools into team workflows.

Benefits

  • Country-specific compensation range (Spain base range shown). Equity and potential bonus (if applicable).
  • Company-funded AI tooling usage budget and support for pragmatic AI-assisted development workflows.
  • 100% remote, global culture with in-person onboarding to connect new hires with the team.
  • Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum (with 3 days reserved for company shutdown days; local legislation applies where relevant).
  • Emphasis on transparent communication, career growth pathways, and an open-source community-oriented culture.
