Details

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company powering Grafana, a popular observability and visualization platform used worldwide. The Observability department enables developers to understand application and infrastructure health by providing tools to instrument code, ingest telemetry, and visualize data. Alloy is a distribution of the OpenTelemetry collector maintained as an open source project on GitHub.

This is a remote position. Grafana Labs is looking for candidates in the NASA (EST-only) or EMEA time zones. The role focuses on managing the Alloy engineering team and driving collaboration with the OpenTelemetry collector community, product teams, and go-to-market partners.

What is Grafana Cloud?

Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It enables customers to use open source observability software—such as Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope—without the overhead of installing, maintaining, and scaling their own observability stack.

What is Grafana Alloy?

Alloy is a distribution of the OpenTelemetry collector for collecting, processing, and exporting telemetry signals at scale. Alloy combines OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Loki, Pyroscope, and other ecosystems and is maintained as an open source project on GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the Alloy engineering team across EMEA and NASA (EST) time zones, providing regular feedback and career development.
  • Support the Alloy team’s collaboration with the OpenTelemetry collector community and help remove roadblocks.
  • Collaborate with go-to-market teams to ensure customer and prospect success with Alloy.
  • Work closely with product and engineering leadership to integrate Alloy into the end-to-end user experience for Grafana Cloud products.
  • Provide guidance throughout the project lifecycle from ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch to deliver high-quality results.
  • Foster a psychologically safe environment that encourages learning, experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner across team boundaries and with other functions to solve customer problems and contribute to projects outside the team’s immediate scope.

Requirements

  • Domain knowledge in observability and OpenTelemetry sufficient to manage a team collaborating closely with the OpenTelemetry collector community.
  • Comfortable working with autonomous engineering teams on technical and product decisions.
  • Keep up-to-date with technical trends and maintain an understanding of the challenges faced by the team.
  • Experience collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment, using clear and empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance to deliver meaningful, high-quality results.
  • Deep customer focus, grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
  • Comfort and curiosity with AI-assisted tooling and experience folding AI-powered tools into a team’s workflow is encouraged.

Compensation

  • Base compensation range (US): USD 183,000 - USD 220,000. Actual compensation may vary by level, experience, and skillset.

Benefits

  • Equity and bonus (if applicable) and other benefits (see company careers page for full details).
  • Company-funded usage budget for AI-assisted developer tooling and access to frontier models.
  • 100% remote, global culture with defined career growth pathways.
  • In-person onboarding to help new hires ramp and connect with the company.
  • Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum (3 days reserved for Grafana Shutdown Days), subject to local legislation.
