Team Description

Staking is the #3 revenue-generating product at Coinbase ($700M+ ARR in 2024). The Staking Platform team builds platform services to empower high quality staking products for our retail and institutional customers. People don’t just buy/sell crypto, they “earn” on crypto, and provide security and decentralization for blockchain networks.

We’re looking for an experienced engineering lead with a strong backend/distributed system background and experience leading platform teams. You’ll lead a high performance team responsible for abstracting blockchain complexities into simple, easy-to-use platform APIs for all Coinbase product teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage engineering teams to develop features, services, and infrastructure.
• Coach direct reports to positively impact the organization and support career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to create quarterly roadmaps.
• Break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Provide technical voice in architectural decisions and promote high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure delivery and operation of multi-tenant distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent organization to recruit engineers who align with Coinbase culture.
• Contribute to processes driving engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.

Requirements

• At least 7 years software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenant distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on when needed: code review, technical documents, on-call rotations, incident leadership, bug triage.
• Passion for building an open financial system using crypto and blockchain.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your location, the target annual salary for this position is $218,025 to $256,500 USD. Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits.
