Details

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company with more than 20M users of Grafana and customers including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay. The company develops the Grafana Cloud and Grafana Enterprise Stack, including components for metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).

The Opportunity

Application Core Services (AppCore) is a group within Platform (Foundations) that builds internal engineering platform capabilities and business-critical systems used across Grafana Cloud, Enterprise, and grafana.com. AppCore maintains domain areas such as the billing engine (customer usage calculation), automated provisioning post-contract, cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP), and the customer account management portal. The team works at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations; systems built by the team are critical for scaling Grafana.

This role is a remote position. Grafana Labs is considering candidates located in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom only.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a distributed team of engineers: conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support performance and career development.
  • Partner with product management and engineering leadership to shape the Usage squad's roadmap, strategy, and OKRs.
  • Guide the team through the full project lifecycle from technical design and scoping to delivery and post-launch iteration (Usage domain: billing engine, cost management and billing app, reconciliation systems).
  • Act as a project facilitator across Product, DealOps, GTM, Pricing and Monetization, Support, and adjacent AppCore squads to remove blockers and coordinate cross-service delivery.
  • Foster a high-trust, security-first team culture and embrace thoughtful AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering workflows and reduce toil.
  • Contribute to hiring and talent acquisition with People Ops to attract and retain diverse engineering talent.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • At least 3 years of prior experience as an Individual Contributor (IC) in a related engineering role.
  • Strong software engineering background, ideally including backend systems experience (for example, Go), sufficient to engage credibly in technical design discussions.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems principles such as scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage delivery across multiple concurrent projects, align stakeholders with competing priorities, and communicate risks and timelines.
  • Comfortable working with autonomous engineering teams and collaborating asynchronously across time zones and cultures.
  • Deep customer focus, grounding technical decisions in user and business impact.
  • Comfortable with AI-assisted tooling and curious about integrating AI-powered tools into team workflows.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with high-volume billing systems, usage metering, and customer-facing cost management applications (e.g., CMAB).
  • Practical experience implementing and automating complex pricing logic, promotions, discounts, rebilling, and usage forgiveness with strong auditability.
  • Familiarity with cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) and compliance or system refactoring related to IT General Controls or RBAC.
  • Experience with SaaS provisioning, tenancy, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle systems.
  • Experience with Kubernetes control-plane patterns, operators, reconcilers, or desired-state systems.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects.

Compensation & Rewards

In Ireland, the base compensation range for this role is EUR 117,000 - EUR 137,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset. All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Compensation ranges are country specific; applicants in other locations will have a market-specific pay range discussed by the recruiter.
