Details

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company with a global user base and products for observability (metrics, logs, traces). The role sits in Application Core Services (AppCore) within Platform > Foundations and focuses on systems that power Grafana's business operations (billing engine, provisioning, marketplace integrations, customer account portal). The team works at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations and contributes to both internal systems and open source.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a distributed engineering team: regular 1:1s, feedback, performance and career development.
  • Partner with product management and engineering leadership to shape the Usage squad roadmap, strategy, and OKRs.
  • Guide the team through the full project lifecycle from technical design and scoping to delivery and post-launch iteration (examples: billing engine, cost management and billing app, reconciliation systems).
  • Act as a project manager to facilitate collaboration across Product, DealOps, GTM, Pricing and Monetization, Support, and adjacent AppCore squads.
  • Foster a high-trust, security-first team culture and embrace AI-assisted development practices to improve workflows and reduce toil.
  • Contribute to hiring and talent acquisition efforts in partnership with People Ops.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • At least 3 years prior experience as an Individual Contributor in a related engineering role.
  • Strong software engineering background, ideally including backend systems experience (e.g., Go) sufficient to engage in technical design discussions.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems principles: scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage delivery across multiple concurrent projects, align stakeholders, and communicate risks and timelines.
  • Comfortable working with autonomous engineering teams in a fully remote, globally distributed environment.
  • Deep customer focus: ground technical decisions in user and business impact.
  • Comfortable and curious about integrating AI-assisted tooling into team workflows.

Bonus (Nice-to-have)

  • Experience with high-volume billing systems, usage metering, and customer-facing cost management applications.
  • Practical experience implementing and automating complex pricing logic, promotions, discounts, rebilling, and usage forgiveness with auditability.
  • Familiarity with cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) and compliance or system refactoring related to IT General Controls or RBAC.
  • Experience with SaaS provisioning, tenancy, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle systems.
  • Experience with Kubernetes control-plane patterns (operators, reconcilers, desired-state systems).
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects.

Compensation & Rewards

  • In Spain, base compensation range: EUR 94,000 - EUR 117,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset.
  • All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Why You’ll Thrive

  • 100% remote, global culture with distributed teams.
  • Opportunity to work in a scaling organization with transparent communication, open-source roots, and empowered teams.
  • In-person onboarding and a global annual leave policy (30 days per annum, with 3 shutdown days).
