About the role

As a Finance Expert / AI Tutor, you will enhance the capabilities of xAI’s technologies by providing high-quality input and labels using specialized/proprietary software. You will collaborate closely with the technical team to support the training of new AI tasks and help implement innovative initiatives. The role includes refining annotation tools and selecting complex problems from advanced finance fields (investment analysis, equities, commodities, real estate, fixed income, forex, derivatives, accounting) to improve model performance. AI Tutors also gather or provide data (text, voice, video), perform annotations, record audio, or participate in video sessions. All work is done for hire and owned by xAI.

Responsibilities

  • Use proprietary software applications to provide input/labels on defined projects.
  • Support and ensure delivery of high-quality curated data.
  • Contribute to training new tasks and work closely with technical staff on initiatives and technologies.
  • Interact with technical staff to help improve design of efficient annotation tools.
  • Choose problems from finance fields aligned with your expertise (investment analysis, taxation, accounting, financial modeling, risk assessment) and provide detailed solutions and model evaluation.
  • Regularly interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on given instructions.

Requirements (Basic Qualifications)

  • Must possess a Master’s or PhD in a finance-related field (Finance, Economics, Business Administration with finance focus, or related disciplines) or equivalent professional experience as an investment analyst specializing in equity, commodities, real estate, fixed income, or accounting.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing, both informal and professional English.
  • Strong ability to navigate financial information resources, databases, and online resources (e.g., Bloomberg, Reuters, SEC filings).
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational capabilities.
  • Solid reading comprehension and capacity to exercise autonomous judgment with limited data/material.
  • Strong passion for and commitment to technological advancements and innovation in finance.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Professional experience as an investment analyst, portfolio/wealth manager, or financial consultant.
  • At least one publication in a reputable finance or economics journal or outlet.
  • Teaching experience in finance-related subjects.
  • Corporate accountants with a CPA.
  • CFA Charterholder.

Location and other expectations

  • Tutor roles may be offered as full-time, part-time, or contractor positions depending on needs and candidate fit.
  • Contractor hours vary widely by project scope and availability; on average most projects may involve at least 10 hours per week (not a fixed commitment). Contractors have flexibility to set their hours.
  • Tutor roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role-specific needs.
  • For US-based candidates, xAI cannot hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois at this time.
  • xAI is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
  • Personal device requirement: Chromebook, Mac with macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Compensation and benefits

  • US-based candidates: $45/hour - $100/hour depending on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International candidates: information provided during recruitment.
