Details
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Applied AI team embeds Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) directly with strategic customers to drive AI adoption, ship production applications built on Claude models, and collaborate closely with Post-Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable solutions.
FDEs operate autonomously in customer environments, combining engineering expertise, frontier AI application knowledge, and customer-facing skills to understand workflows and develop innovative solutions. This role involves hands-on engineering work inside customer systems, creating production artifacts, and translating deployment learnings back to product and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Work within customer systems to build production applications with Claude models that meet customer requirements.
- Deliver technical artifacts for customers such as MCP servers, sub-agents, and agent skills for use in production workflows.
- Provide white glove deployment support for Anthropic products in enterprise environments.
- Identify and codify repeatable deployment patterns and contribute insights back to Product and Engineering.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the latest developments in LLM capabilities, implementation patterns, and AI product development stacks.
- Build long-term relationships with customers and proactively identify new opportunities for AI deployment across engagement lifecycles.
- Potential travel to customer sites (estimated ~25%) to build in person with customers.
- Champion Anthropic’s mission in the field and operate with high autonomy and professionalism.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a technical, customer-facing role (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer) or as a Software Engineer with consulting/field experience. Former technical founders encouraged to apply.
- Production experience with LLMs, including advanced prompt engineering, agent development, evaluation frameworks, and deployment at scale.
- Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python and ideally one or more additional languages such as Typescript or Java; experience shipping production applications.
- High agency and ability to navigate ambiguity in complex organizations.
- Strong cross-organizational collaboration skills and the ability to balance competing priorities with integrity.
- Excellent communication skills for discovery with customers and conveying technical concepts to diverse stakeholders while maintaining a collaborative approach.
- Experience or domain background in financial services, healthcare/life sciences, or other enterprise verticals is a plus.
- Experience with enterprise IT systems and AI deployment patterns is a plus.
- Prior experience working as an FDE or in professional services is a plus.
- Education: at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Compensation
- Annual Salary: $200,000 - $300,000 USD
Logistics and Other Details
- Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time.
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas and retain an immigration lawyer to assist, though sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role/candidate.
- Travel: Estimated ~25% travel to customer sites (based on location).
