Details

In February 2025, the Risk Management mission has been reset to address the challenges and pain points. The mission of the CRO organisation is ‘we deliver sound and simple Risk Management solutions to increase our resilience while enabling our client’s success and the banks growth’, with the vision to ‘secure risk excellence in the heart of ABN AMRO’. The CRO organisation focusses on four strategic pillars: Simplicity, Execution Focus, Risks that Matter and Risk Culture. These strategic pillars rely on their People, Innovation, Seamless Processing, Governance & Organisation to successfully realise the Risk Management Vision.

AI & Analytics Model Risk department, within Model Risk Management & Model Validation (MRM&MV), is a culturally diverse team of approximately 8-10 highly qualified professionals, located in Amsterdam. The team is responsible for model risk management and validation of models within the AI, FEC, and other relevant analytical domains, which includes models used by CRO IT & Cyber, Compliance (incl. SIM), Brand Marketing & Communications, Group Audit, Central Operations Office (inc. DFC), Innovation & Technology, Human Resources, and all generative AI models throughout the bank.

ABN AMRO is looking for an experienced leader for the department. We are looking for someone with a strategic vision, and a determination and presence to follow through, with the aim to improve and innovate. You have deep expertise in international financial markets, related models and relevant regulations, who can lead a diverse team of high value specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and execution of the Model Risk Management Framework, including model discovery, tiering, inventory management, validation, risk reporting, risk monitoring, and risk assessment, as well as setting the Risk Appetite Statement.
  • Direct and coordinate the tracking of all outstanding model-related findings and ensure timely assessment and closure of requests.
  • Oversee the management and administration of the Methodology Acceptance Groups (MAGs), as well as model risk reporting.
  • Define and maintain model validation requirements and procedures.
  • Identify and signal issues or problems through validation and other oversight activities, providing proposals for corrective actions.
  • Transition teams from a Model Validation (MV) focus to a Model Risk Management & Model Validation (MRM&MV) orientation.
  • Integrate MRM tasks with the MV department.
  • Change the way of working from process-oriented to risk-aware prioritization and execution.
  • Expand coverage of MRM across the full organisation.
  • Foster a deep understanding of model risk and risk management within the team.

Working environment

The AI & Analytics Model Risk department is part of ABN AMRO’s Model Risk Management & Model Validation (MRM&MV) department. There are three other model risk teams within the MRM&MV department: Financial Markets Model Risk, Retail Credit Model Risk, Non-Retail Credit Model Risk. You are member of the management team of the MRM&MV department and report directly to the head of MRM&MV. The head of MRM&MV reports directly to the CRO.

Key stakeholders of your department are within the various functions (COO, I&T), Risk (Compliance, CRO IT & Cyber), senior management, internal & external auditors and the ECB and other regulators.
