Details

At Eneco you will work at the heart of the energy transition in trading. Eneco has approved an ambitious growth plan for trading activities that requires a step-change in analytical capability — from traditional market analysis towards scalable trading strategies, signals and execution engines that create sustainable trading edge. As Head of Trade Analysis you will build and lead the front-office analytics capability that drives measurable trading performance and the digital future of Eneco’s trading organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the trading analytics vision and strategy.
  • Build, lead and scale a front-office analytics capability across multiple trading domains (market models, option engines, algorithmic trading and execution support).
  • Translate trading strategies into scalable analytics engines and production-grade tools, covering idea generation, R&D, proof of concept, production, monitoring and scaling.
  • Establish prioritisation, model lifecycle management, production monitoring and value attribution.
  • Manage a portfolio of analytics initiatives across R&D, PoC, pilot and full-scale deployment.
  • Secure and manage funding through evidence-based business cases and active ROI steering; deliver agreed investment outcomes and contribute to significant model- and engine-based P&L impact.
  • Design and enforce risk mitigation, make/buy decisions, fail-safes, fallbacks and monitoring standards.
  • Establish analytics development, deployment, data governance and control processes.
  • Build performance transparency across traders, strategies and analytical initiatives to support capital allocation and mandate expansion.
  • Lead and develop a specialised analytics team (~20 FTE) of desk analysts, quantitative analysts and quant developers: recruitment, coaching, development and performance management.
  • Act as senior counterpart to Trading, Risk, Tech, Finance and external partners; ensure analytics investments are commercially relevant, technically robust and operationally governable.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Quantitative Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in quantitative modelling, trading analytics and model-driven decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, commodities, derivatives and options.
  • Experience in algorithmic trading and front-office trading environments (energy, commodities, market making, proprietary trading or comparable quantitative trading contexts).
  • Proven ability to turn quantitative research into production-grade trading tools, signals, strategies or execution engines.
  • Demonstrated track record in building scalable analytics capabilities from concept to production.
  • Strong commercial judgement with experience in ROI steering, benefit tracking and investment governance.
  • Strong judgement balancing innovation speed, model robustness, operational control and P&L accountability.
  • Proven leadership experience managing highly skilled quantitative, analytical or technical teams; ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels.
  • Ability to create structure, direction and momentum in a growing and transforming organisation.

Where you’ll work / Team

You will lead a specialised Trade Analysis organisation of approximately 20 FTE structured across multiple analytical domains. The team consists of desk analysts, quantitative analysts and quant developers focused on trading strategies, fundamental market models, option models, algorithmic platforms and execution support. The team works directly with trading desks and plays a central role in creating scalable trading edge. You will report to the Program Director Trade Growth and work closely with Trading, Risk, Tech, Finance and external partners.
