About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
One of the key drivers to our success is a committed and rigorous emphasis on our people. We believe that our competitive advantage lies in our talent and that we can build a sustainable advantage by attracting, enabling and cultivating the world’s most exceptional people to do the very best work of their careers.
Stripe is looking for a People Specialist to join our global team. This Chicago-based role will support Stripe managers and their teams, primarily in the United States and Canada. People Specialists enable and support managers at Stripe to build and lead successful teams. They leverage policies, research, insights, experience, and cross-functional partnerships (such as with legal counsel or Employee Relations) to coach managers, support organizational health, and enable compliant, fair, and positive experiences for Stripes.
What you’ll do
As a People Specialist, you’ll help make Stripe a great place to work and grow. You’ll partner with, coach, enable and advise Stripe’s people managers on all things people-related: performance management and coaching, career development, employee relations, leveling, manager effectiveness, career development, navigating change, and more. This is a dynamic role that collaborates with Stripes across all levels, functions, and geographies and is a great opportunity to have an outsized impact on the culture of a fast-moving, scaling, global tech company.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Managers: Coach and advise on various people-related topics, including performance management, career development, employee relations, and navigating change.
- Implement Performance Management: Collaborate with People team colleagues to implement and support a consistent performance management program that meets local and regional needs.
- Understand Policies: Develop a solid understanding of legal and regulatory considerations, and effectively apply Stripe’s HR policies to support managers and employees.
- User Focus: Ensure excellent employee experiences through key life cycle stages, including onboarding and departure processes
- Legal & Compliance Support: Work with legal counsel and external consultants to address complex issues and ensure compliance with labor regulations.
- Support Reorganizations: Guide and advise on change management and communications for team restructuring efforts.
- Enhance People Programs: Facilitate the rollout of People programs, ensuring smooth execution of initiatives like performance reviews and employee engagement surveys.
- Data Analysis: Analyze workforce data to present insights to managers, informing team strategy and tracking people-related metrics.
- Lead with Empathy: Foster a culture of humility, optimism, belonging, and inclusivity.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 3+ years of HR experience (3-5 for IC2, 4-8 years for IC3), including at least 2 years in a client-facing HR role (e.g., HR generalist, HR Business Partner, Employee Relations partner), or equivalent experience in a business-facing role
- Direct Manager Support: Experience partnering with managers on performance management, employee relations, and team culture.
- Program Rollout: Experience supporting managers during the rollout of company-wide HR programs including performance reviews, compensation planning, and talent reviews.
- Policy Application: Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying HR policy in a geographically distributed workforce.
- Legal Knowledge: Working knowledge of employment legislation and practices in the United States.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to diagnose problems using data and develop viable solutions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Fast-Paced Environment: Experience working in a rapidly growing technology company or large organization.
- Frontline Manager Support: Experience supporting managers in both tech and non-tech functions.
- Canadian Employment Practices: Knowledge of employment legislation and practices in Canada.
- Training Facilitation: Experience in developing training materials and conducting employee workshops.
- Project Management: Proven project management skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively and deliver work on schedule.
Hybrid work at Stripe
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
Pay and benefits
The annual US base salary range for this role is $102,500 - $197,400. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
We look forward to hearing from you
