Details
xAI is seeking an AI Tutor - Physics Specialist to enhance AI systems by providing high-quality input and labels using specialized software. You will work closely with the technical team to support training of new AI tasks, refine annotation tools, select and solve complex problems from advanced physics fields, and provide data in text, voice, and video formats. This is a remote role; full-time preferred but part-time or contractor arrangements may be possible.
Responsibilities
- Use proprietary software applications to provide input/labels on defined projects.
- Support and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data.
- Contribute to training of new tasks and collaborate with technical staff on initiatives and model improvements.
- Interact with technical staff to help improve the design of efficient annotation tools.
- Choose problems from various physics subfields aligned with your specialization to provide detailed solutions and evaluate model responses.
- Gather or provide data in text, voice, and video formats, including annotations, audio recordings, or video sessions.
- Regularly interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on evolving instructions.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in physics or a highly related field.
- Expertise in one or more physics subdomains, such as condensed matter physics, high energy physics, nuclear physics, atomic/molecular/optical physics, quantum computing and information, computational physics, mathematical physics, or interdisciplinary physics (e.g., biophysics).
- Proficiency in reading and writing English (informal and professional).
- Strong ability to navigate information resources, databases, and online resources.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong reading comprehension and capacity to exercise autonomous judgment with limited data.
- Comfortable creating/providing annotations, audio recordings, and video sessions; comfortable using proprietary annotation software.
- Passion for technological advancement and innovation.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Multiple publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, preferably with first-author papers.
- Previous AI tutoring or annotation experience.
- Teaching experience (professor, teacher, tutor).
- Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.
Location and Other Expectations
- Roles may be full-time, part-time, or contractor positions depending on need and candidate fit. Contractors have flexible hours; many projects average at least 10 hours per week but this is not a fixed commitment.
- Tutor roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone compatibility. Note: for U.S.-based candidates, xAI cannot hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois at this time.
- xAI is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
- For personal-device work: Chromebook, Mac with macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later are required.
Compensation and Benefits
- U.S.-based candidates: $45/hour - $75/hour depending on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International compensation details provided during recruitment.
