Policy Counsel, EMEA

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Policy Counsel, EMEA will support public policy and legal initiatives at the intersection of AI technology and regulation, working cross-functionally with legal, public policy, and technical teams to develop governance frameworks and advocacy materials.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of AI governance frameworks that align with evolving regulations, industry best practices, and global standards
• Monitor and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory developments related to AI
• Provide legal analysis and advice to the External Affairs team and other Public Policy stakeholders
• Partner with Public Policy and technical teams in developing practical policy guidance informed by product understanding
• Assist in drafting policy positions and proposals and advocacy materials

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

• Law degree and qualification to practice law in a relevant EMEA jurisdiction
• Experience with policy, regulatory, or government affairs work (government, technology company, law firm, or policy organization)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make complex legal and technical concepts accessible to non-legal audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguous policy questions

Preferred qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant legal experience
• Experience working on complex technology policy issues across AI/ML policy, data privacy, copyright, or technology regulation
• Familiarity with EMEA legislative and regulatory processes, including experience with EU or national-level advocacy
• Experience drafting policy positions, comment letters, or regulatory submissions
• Demonstrated ability to quickly understand AI concepts and translate them into policy contexts
• Interest in government affairs matters and a commitment to responsible AI development
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across diverse teams
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail

Location & Office Policy

• Role locations: Dublin, Ireland and London, United Kingdom
• Role-specific policy: staff are expected to be able to work from the London or Dublin office at least 3 days a week (hybrid arrangement). The posting also states a general expectation that staff be in an office at least 25% of the time.

Compensation

• Annual Salary: £200,000 - £240,000 GBP

• Location-based hybrid policy: currently expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time
• Visa sponsorship: The company states that they do sponsor visas and will make every reasonable effort to obtain a visa if an offer is made (they retain an immigration lawyer)
