The Opportunity

The Grafana Alerting squad operates at the core of the Grafana open-source project (https://github.com/grafana/grafana), and our mission is to provide the most in-depth way to let users manage their alerts. The backend-focused team works closely with customers and the Grafana Cloud teams to make Alerting work on-prem and at infinite scale in Cloud.

Example projects the team has worked on:

• Build distributed systems to scale alert ingestion and delivery of Prometheus-based alerts
• Unify Alerting setup and delivery to work the same for Grafana and Prometheus-based alerts
• Build distributed systems to scale alert evaluation of Grafana-managed alerts, reaching over 500 evaluations per second in production

Location: This is a remote opportunity; applications from Ireland are of particular interest.

Responsibilities

• Influence the roadmap and define your own career objectives
• Work with your team to deliver new features and iterate based on results
• Drive projects from initial ideation through to operations and customer-facing delivery
• Contribute to open-source projects and collaborate across team boundaries
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems; own reliability, performance, and availability
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you run
• Mentor and support other team members; participate in design discussions
• Learn and deepen understanding of the cloud product and large distributed system codebases

Requirements / What Makes You a Great Fit

• Motivated self-starter with a bias towards action
• Customer-focused and passionate about creating intuitive products
• Pragmatic problem-solver who can break complex challenges into short feedback loops and iterative MVPs
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for a fully remote setup
• Solid experience with at least one programming language; Grafana uses Go (familiarity with Python, Java, C++, Rust or similar also translates well)
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end (requirements, brainstorming, shipping to customers)
• Experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or experience with systems engineering
• Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is maintainable by others

Compensation & Rewards

• In Ireland, the compensation range for this role is EUR 104,000 - EUR 124,800. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed throughout the interview process.
• All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
• Compensation ranges are country-specific; recruiters will discuss market-specific pay ranges for other locations
