This role is available for candidates located in the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland and Sweden.

The Opportunity

The Grafana Backend Services squad’s mission is to deliver the best Grafana service to both On-Prem and Cloud customers in a unified, end-to-end manner, from ownership of the API codebase all the way to operation of its components. This includes components such as the Grafana Backend API, the CLI tool, and the orchestration infrastructure required to deliver Grafana at Cloud scale.

Responsibilities

• Work with your team to deliver new functionality, iterate and improve based on results
• Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
• Embrace and contribute to open-source projects that may extend beyond your team’s scope
• Influence roadmap and career objectives
• Participate in team on-call rotations and take ownership of services in production
• Mentor and support other team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate across squads
• Share ideas and knowledge across diverse technical ideologies and mindsets
• Work closely with other squads in the Grafana Division

The team invests in developer productivity and supports the use of modern AI coding assistants within security guidelines (company-funded usage budget). Frontier models (e.g., GPT-Codex 5/3, Claude Opus 4.6, Gemini 3 Pro) are available to support development workflows.

Requirements

• Solid backend development experience, ideally with Go
• Good understanding of storage solutions with emphasis on relational databases (MySQL, SQLite, Postgres)
• Care about developer and user experience and product quality
• Experience delivering projects end-to-end: requirements, design, shipping, and iteration
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software
• Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative/asynchronous environment
• Comfortable working on complex solutions and breaking problems down to iterate (MVPs, gather feedback, progress iteratively)
• Willingness to be on-call and perform operations/SRE tasks

Bonus

• Experience with open-source software and/or commercial open-source companies
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or Developer Efficiency work streams
• Experience using Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles
• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a desire to learn

Compensation & Rewards

• In Sweden, the Base compensation range for this role is SEK 775,000 - SEK 969,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process.
