Grafana Labs is the company behind the open observability cloud. Grafana Cloud is a fully managed observability platform built for scale. The company is 100% remote with team members across 40+ countries.
This role is available for candidates located in the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland and Sweden. The Grafana Backend Services squad’s mission is to deliver the best Grafana service to both On-Prem and Cloud customers in a unified, end-to-end manner, owning API codebases, CLI tooling, and the orchestration infrastructure required to deliver Grafana at cloud scale.
Responsibilities
- Work with your team to deliver new functionality, then iterate and improve based on results
- Contribute to and review design documents for upcoming features
- Embrace open-source culture and contribute to projects beyond team scope
- Influence roadmap and career objectives
- Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you run
- Mentor and support other team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate across squads
- Share ideas and knowledge across diverse technical ideologies and mindsets
- Work closely with other squads in the Grafana Division
Grafana invests in developer productivity and permits modern AI coding assistants (within security guidelines) with a company-funded usage budget. You will have access to frontier models (examples mentioned: GPT-Codex, Claude Opus, Gemini).
Requirements
- Solid backend development experience, ideally with Go
- Good understanding of storage solutions with emphasis on relational databases (MySQL, SQLite, Postgres)
- Care about developer and user experience and product quality
- Experience delivering projects end-to-end (requirements to shipping) in a self-driven way
- Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software
- Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative but asynchronous environment
- Comfortable working on complex solutions and breaking them down to iterate (MVPs, gather feedback, iterate)
- Be part of on-call rotations and handle operational responsibilities for services
Bonus Points
- Experience with open-source software and/or commercial open-source companies
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or Developer Efficiency workstreams
- Experience using Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles
- Familiarity with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks
- Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems
Compensation & Rewards
- In the UK, the base compensation range for this role is £91,000 - £114,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process.
