Details

ClickHouse is a fast-growing cloud company focused on real-time analytics, data warehousing, observability, and AI workloads. The Cloud AutoScaling team builds vertical and horizontal auto-scaling capabilities within the ClickHouse cloud environment to evolve ClickHouse into a cloud-native, serverless database platform. You will work closely with core database and other cloud teams to drive improvements in cloud infrastructure, autoscaling, metrics, and overall scalability and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Build a cutting-edge cloud-native database platform on top of public cloud providers.
  • Design, implement, and operate autoscaling systems (vertical and horizontal) and the in-house Kubernetes operator.
  • Improve the metrics pipeline and build algorithms for better autoscaling statistics and recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with the ClickHouse core development team and other data plane teams to support autoscaling use cases and internal infrastructure improvements.
  • Architect and build a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure.
  • Participate in on-call rotation (PagerDuty) and debug production issues.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development industry experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Experience building operators with Kubernetes and controller runtime.
  • Production experience with programming languages such as Go, C++, or Java.
  • Comfortable with on-call responsibilities and debugging production systems (PagerDuty/on-call experience).
  • Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their IaaS offerings (e.g., EC2).
  • Experience with data storage, ingestion, and transformation tools (Spark, Kafka, or similar).
  • Passion for solving data problems at scale.
  • Experience with Python (uv, FastAPI) and data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across engineering teams.

Compensation

  • Typical starting salary range for this role in the United States: $133,450 - $197,200 USD.
  • Typical starting salary range for this role in US Premium Markets (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area, New York City Metro): $157,000 - $232,000 USD.

These ranges reflect the minimum and maximum pay for this role at time of posting; placement within the range depends on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, and performance.
