Responsibilities

• Lead engineering teams that build the mission-critical, submillisecond systems underpinning our Derivatives Exchanges.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and leadership to translate vision into a tangible roadmap, breaking down complex projects into smaller pieces.
• Serve as a technical voice in the team, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
• Coach direct reports to positively impact the organization and support their career growth.
• Partner with talent teams to identify and recruit exceptional engineers aligned with Coinbase's culture.
• Own and contribute to engineering quality processes that meet service level agreements.

Requirements

• Experience building and operating 24/7 financial trading systems such as Matching Engines, Order Management Systems, Risk Engines, Market Data, and Order Gateways.
• Domain expertise in crypto, derivatives or financial products.
• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 5 years of engineering management experience, including 2 years managing other managers.
• Deep understanding of high-quality code and software engineering processes.
• Ability to execute, navigate ambiguity, and do both long-term and short-term planning.
• Experience architecting complex distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on capability in code review, technical documentation, on-call rotations, incident leadership, and bug triage.
• Passion for building an open financial system.
