Details

Recognized on the 2025 Forbes Cloud 100 list, ClickHouse is a fast-growing cloud company focused on real-time analytics, data warehousing, observability, and AI workloads. The Security organization’s mission is to build customer trust through resilient, pragmatic security. ClickHouse is establishing a new, centralized Security Engineering function responsible for delivering security engineering work across product lines and engineering dimensions.

About the team

The new centralized Security Engineering team will own security engineering end-to-end — from architecture and design through implementation and delivery. Initial scope includes the Customer Identity engineering team and will expand to cover features such as Transparent Data Encryption, secure networking, sandboxing, Identity and Access Management, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and scale a centralized Security Engineering team, starting with the Customer Identity team; define the operating model, roadmap collaboration, and tracking systems for security engineering work across product lines.
  • Hire, develop, and retain security-focused software engineers and create a team culture grounded in engineering excellence and pragmatic security.
  • Lead the design and implementation of security product features across ClickHouse Cloud, Postgres, Langfuse and OSS — including encryption, identity and access, network isolation, sandboxing, and authentication.
  • Drive end-to-end ownership of security engineering initiatives, reducing ad-hoc resource allocation and establishing clear lanes and dedicated tracking systems for security product features.
  • Manage cross-functional dependencies across Core, Data Platform, Cloud Platform, and Product Security teams.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Security teams to ensure engineering solutions are grounded in risk and threat modeling; work with GRC and Trust & Assurance to support compliance and audit requirements.
  • Serve as primary point of accountability for security engineering commitments to product strategy and roadmap.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and managing engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Track record of establishing new teams or functions: setting operating models, building culture, and creating accountability structures from scratch.
  • Strong hands-on background in security engineering or software engineering with a significant security focus — able to review architecture, guide implementation, and challenge technical decisions.
  • Experience delivering security product features in cloud or SaaS environments (examples: identity and access management, encryption, network security controls, secure multi-tenancy).
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, and distributed systems.
  • Understanding of how security features intersect with product strategy, compliance requirements, and customer trust.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional programs — define roadmaps, manage dependencies, and deliver against commitments.
  • Strong prioritization instincts and risk-based decision-making in fast-moving environments.
  • Experience building scalable systems and processes for tracking, reporting, and coordination.

Bonus

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
  • Previous experience at a cloud infrastructure, database, or developer tools company.
  • Previous contributions to open source projects.

Compensation

  • Typical starting salary (United States): $185,000 - $230,000 USD.
  • Typical starting salary (US Premium Markets such as San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Metro): $200,000 - $250,000 USD.

Perks

  • Flexible work environment; remote-friendly and globally distributed.
  • Employer contributions towards healthcare.
  • Equity via stock options for new team members.
  • Flexible time off in the US and generous entitlement in other countries.
  • $500 home office setup for remote employees.
  • Company-wide global gatherings/offsites.
