The Community Support Platform (CSP) at Airbnb drives customer support operations globally by empowering Community Support ambassadors with advanced technology. The AI Product team integrates AI capabilities to enhance user experience alongside human expertise.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of applied scientists and machine learning engineers focused on AI model research, design, and optimization.
- Develop and refine strategies for ML and AI aspects of community support products prioritizing scalability, quality, safety, performance, and reliability.
- Foster rapid development cycles with high-quality standards by collaborating with platform, backend, and frontend engineers to build robust ML models and systems.
- Make data-driven decisions by evaluating technical trade-offs to ensure optimal solutions.
- Conduct design and architecture reviews to maintain technical excellence.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge in machine learning and AI methodologies, including large language models (LLMs) and non-LLMs, especially for user-facing products.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams that develop large-scale ML models enhancing online user experiences.
- Strong mentorship, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills handling ambiguous challenges strategically.
- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical fields.
- Over 10 years of industry experience in AI model/product development, including more than 2 years working with LLMs.
- 5+ years managing impactful machine learning teams.
- Expertise in ML algorithms, AI for customer support systems, LLM alignment techniques (SFT, RLHF, DPO), and LLM evaluation.
- Experience with ML infrastructure and complex system designs.
- Quick learner capable of integrating new concepts into business operations.
Benefits
- Base pay range: $244,000 to $305,000 USD annually.
- Eligibility for bonuses, equity, benefits, and employee travel credits.
- Remote-eligible position within the United States, with possible office visits or offsite attendance as agreed.
