Role Overview

The Security team is essential in maintaining trust across the Airbnb platform by securing production, corporate, and third-party environments through technical preventions. The Senior Manager, Security Engineering, will lead efforts to advance and scale technical protections focusing on infrastructure and application security functions. This role collaborates cross-functionally with detection, response, validation teams, program and product management, technical leadership, software engineering, and key stakeholders to develop, plan, execute, measure, and improve security measures.

Responsibilities

• Define and establish new technical security capabilities.
• Lead and collaborate across multiple functions to mature and scale security protections.
• Balance business needs and risk mitigation, promoting a security culture that supports secure paths to business objectives.
• Manage direct and cross-functional teams, supporting their transition and growth.

Requirements

• Extensive people and engineering leadership experience with 8+ years managing and at least 3 years supporting other managers.
• Experience in managing complex, multi-function security programs or adjacent fields like Privacy, Trust and Safety, Integrity.
• Practical approach to security focusing on minimizing friction, customer-first mindset, and risk mitigation.
• Experience with AWS services such as GuardDuty, Lambda, Kinesis, S3, SNS, SQS, EC2.
• Background in software development.
• Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration.
• Deep understanding of security lifecycle pillars: prevention, detection, response, and validation.
• Experience spanning corporate and product infrastructure and third-party tooling.

Location

This is a US remote-eligible position, requiring living in a US state where Airbnb has a registered entity, with occasional office or offsite attendance as agreed with management.

Benefits

Base salary range $244,000 - $305,000 USD, plus potential bonus, equity, benefits, and employee travel credits.
