Airbnb was born in 2007 in San Francisco and has grown into a global platform connecting hosts and guests. The Policy & Communications team works with communities and stakeholders worldwide; this Senior Policy Economist role sits within Airbnb’s Data Science organization to ensure engagements are data-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regulatory and economic impact modeling and provide guidance to policy team members.
  • Use AI/ML and econometric models to derive insights from legislation and other data sources.
  • Conduct causal inference and quasi-experimental analyses to estimate impacts.
  • Collaborate with academics, experts, policy-makers, and cross-functional partners (policy/comms, business, legal, finance, data science).
  • Perform mapping and spatial analysis of data, and build GIS-based analyses.
  • Produce clear, high-quality visualizations, dashboards, maps, and "data journalism" to communicate complex analyses to internal and external audiences.
  • Build prototypes, dashboards, and tools to scale data usage across the organization.
  • Translate complex analyses into accessible and scalable resources for stakeholders and the public.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field.
  • 4+ years of experience in data modeling & analysis, including experience leveraging AI.
  • 5+ years of industry experience with a BS/Masters (or 2+ years with a PhD).
  • Strong ability to perform complex strategic analysis and causal inference (e.g., econometric regressions & quasi-experimental techniques).
  • Knowledge of data tools including R, Python, SQL, data visualization tools, and GIS; experience with mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Exposure to the policy and economics domain (or adjacent domains).

Location & Work Model

  • This position is US — Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with your manager.

Compensation

  • Base pay range: $179,000—$210,000 USD.
  • The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Actual base pay depends on factors including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
