Customer.io is used by over 9,000 companies to send emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and SMS. The company powers automated communication using real-time behavioral data and builds a B2B platform that handles millions of messages daily.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of a product area end to end: strategy, flows, edge cases, and shipped quality.
  • Design flows (onboarding, activation, recovery) and end-to-end experiences across states and edge cases.
  • Close the gap between design and shipped product: pair with engineering during implementation, catch regressions, and contribute directly in code (Pluma components, production UI fixes, interaction prototypes).
  • Contribute actively to Pluma (the design system): propose thoughtful extensions, fix inconsistencies, and steward components adjacent to your work.
  • Develop a point of view on AI in your product area: prototype interactions and account for uncertainty, latency, and reversibility.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering on roadmap and tradeoffs; bring UX into conversations early and own the quality of your area over time.
  • Mentor earlier-career designers through pairing, critique, and example.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating craft, ownership, and shipped work.
  • Strong flow literacy β€” ability to design end-to-end experiences across states, edge cases, and recovery paths.
  • Ability to close the design-to-implementation gap: partner closely with engineering, catch regressions, and contribute in code (code fluency expected at this level).
  • Experienced power user of a design system; able to extend systems thoughtfully and decide when to use primitives vs. propose new ones.
  • Experience designing or shipping AI-involved interfaces; able to discuss handling of uncertainty, latency, and reversibility.
  • B2B SaaS experience with complex, data-driven interfaces.
  • Strong communication and critique skills; able to provide rationale and receive/give constructive feedback.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary: $171,000–$193,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency), depending on experience and subject to market rate adjustment.
