The OSS Big Tent squad focuses on developing and maintaining a diverse portfolio of open source data source plugins that power Grafana dashboards for users worldwide. This role emphasizes building and improving open source plugins, ensuring their reliability in Grafana Cloud, and collaborating across the Data Sources team and other squads within the Grafana division.

Responsibilities

  • Build new Grafana data source plugins to integrate third-party services and databases into Grafana (examples: Prometheus, Loki, Infinity, MySQL, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Zabbix, GitHub, Google Sheets, Zipkin, CSV, MQTT).
  • Innovate and improve the Grafana plugin system to enable enhanced capabilities.
  • Support the operations and reliability of plugins running in Grafana Cloud, including participating in on-call rotations and responding to incidents.
  • Provide technical support during customer escalations and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the Grafana Division.
  • Propose and implement process improvements to scale engineering practices and ways of working.
  • Design and deliver large projects: transform ideas into working code, iterate based on feedback, and deliver user-centered solutions.

Requirements

  • Solid professional experience as a Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Go and backend services.
  • Operational experience: responsible for operating the software you build and participating in on-call rotations to support production systems.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience or knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, etc.).
  • Some front-end experience is valued (TypeScript, React, Redux, RxJS) to help bridge backend and user-facing features.
  • Strong coding skills, ability to design solutions, communicate design decisions clearly in English, and work effectively in a remote-first environment.
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a distributed team, collaborating respectfully and proactively.
  • Experience building or contributing to open source projects and familiarity with data source integrations (SQL and cloud datawarehouses like BigQuery are relevant).

Compensation & Rewards

  • US compensation range for this role: $148,505 - $178,206 (actual compensation varies by level, experience, and skillset).
  • All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
  • Compensation ranges are country-specific; recruiters will discuss local pay ranges for applicants outside the listed location.
