The Networking team within Airbnb’s Cloud Infrastructure org owns the entire production network infrastructure, responsible for designing, building, and operating software and solutions that connect all Airbnb users and services worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Work with open source communities such as Istio to build the next generation service mesh for all Airbnb back-end services.
  • Build cross-region gateways and load balancers for global Airbnb services.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal engineering and security teams to deliver edge security systems protecting Airbnb services.
  • Design multi-region network architecture on public clouds and build software and operation tools to manage Airbnb’s production network.
  • Work with product and engineering teams to optimize network performance for Airbnb services.

Requirements

  • 5-9+ years of industry experience with a BS/Masters or 2+ years with a PhD with relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment.
  • Expertise with virtual network architecture on public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their network service offerings (e.g., VPC, Security Group, PrivateLink).
  • Experience running large scale networking systems and software (e.g., edge proxies, DNS, CDN, network gateways); experience working with Istio and Envoy is a plus.
  • Full-cycle developer with strong ownership, experienced in building and operating high-scale, distributed systems across the full software life cycle.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong problem solver with prior on-call leadership for production infrastructure.
  • Passionate about efficiency, availability, technical and system quality.

Benefits

  • Base pay between $191,000 and $223,000 USD.
  • Eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
  • Remote eligible within the United States with some office presence possible.
