This role focuses on tailoring Messaging & Notifications so hosts can streamline operations and travelers receive timely information. The team is also building new connections within the community to enrich hosting and travel experiences.
The Difference You Will Make
You will architect and implement advanced machine learning solutions—including recommendation engines, ranking systems, intent detection models, and integrations of intelligence into existing platforms. You will lead efforts to harness Large Language Models (LLMs) to create transformative AI experiences. Many initiatives are in early conceptual stages, giving you the opportunity to shape ideas from inception to production. You will lead ML, Data and Product engineers to drive ML applications, with a core focus on Machine Learning applications in Messaging and Notification.
Responsibilities
- Envision, champion, and support the development of novel ML systems, product integrations, and performance optimizations to solve real-world problems
- Architect and implement recommendation engines, ranking systems, intent detection models, and LLM-based features
- Integrate intelligence into existing platforms and take initiatives from concept to production
- Lead, mentor, challenge, and grow collaborative software engineers and applied scientists across the organization
- Raise the AI/ML skillset within the organization and provide teaching/mentoring
Requirements / Your Expertise
- 12+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years in a Principal or Senior Staff Engineer role with ownership responsibility over large-scale software systems
- Background in design and development of scalable AI and ML systems and services
- Deep passion for building ML-powered products
- Strong leadership: inspiring colleague, coach, and mentor with experience fostering engineering maturity across organizations
- Proactive, curious, excellent communicator, and a builder/implementer who seeks high-impact work
Location
- US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. (Refer to Airbnb careers for the up-to-date list of excluded states.)
How We'll Take Care of You / Compensation
- Base pay range: $244,000—$305,000 USD
- This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. The actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
