Responsibilities

  • Design and implement significant backend systems and services.
  • Participate in architectural reviews and define shared frameworks and technical strategy.
  • Mentor engineers and improve engineering quality through reviews and hands-on implementation.
  • Align technical efforts with business outcomes and product priorities.
  • Promote best practices in reliability, observability, testing, and development velocity.
  • Analyze incidents and system data for architectural improvements.
  • Represent the team in technical forums across Airbnb.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in backend or platform systems.
  • At least 5 years experience as a Tech Lead or Architect on impactful, cross-functional projects.
  • Proven experience building large-scale, distributed systems, especially those handling real-time data or internal tooling workflows.
  • Strong coding skills in Java.
  • Familiarity with scalable service and API design patterns.
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and customer support domains is a plus.
  • Passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to influence across organizations.
