About Glean

Glean is the Work AI platform that helps everyone work smarter with AI. What began as the industry’s most advanced enterprise search has evolved into a full-scale Work AI ecosystem, powering intelligent Search, an AI Assistant, and scalable AI agents on one secure, open platform. With over 100 enterprise SaaS connectors, flexible LLM choice, and robust APIs, Glean gives organizations the infrastructure to govern, scale, and customize AI across their entire business - without vendor lock-in or costly implementation cycles.

At its core, Glean is redefining how enterprises find, use, and act on knowledge. Its Enterprise Graph and Personal Knowledge Graph map the relationships between people, content, and activity, delivering deeply personalized, context-aware responses for every employee. This foundation powers Glean’s agentic capabilities - AI agents that automate real work across teams by accessing the industry’s broadest range of data: enterprise and world, structured and unstructured, historical and real-time.

If you’re excited to shape how the world works, you’ll help build systems used daily across Microsoft Teams, Zoom, ServiceNow, Zendesk, GitHub, and many more - deeply embedded where people get things done. You’ll ship agentic capabilities on an open, extensible stack, with the craft and care required for enterprise trust, as we bring Work AI to every employee, in every company.

Role overview

Glean is looking for Backend/Infrastructure engineers to build a highly performant, scalable, secure, permissions-aware system that makes all the relevant enterprise knowledge readily available to employees in all contexts of their work. The role provides opportunities to work on building a modern cloud-native application stack using current best practices. Example technical challenges include building a scalable, reliable distributed system and underlying storage, a unified application framework and data model for indexing diverse information sources, end-to-end security (application, platform, IT security), balancing latency with system cost, and tooling for monitoring and deployment across multiple cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own impactful infrastructure problems from inception and architecture to production launch.
  • Write well thought out design documents and robust, high-quality and well-tested code.
  • Work collaboratively with a strong team to identify the most impactful projects for the roadmap.
  • Mentor more junior engineers and learn from experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience.
  • BA/BS in computer science or a related degree.
  • Experience working on infrastructure for distributed systems or cloud-native applications.

Key knowledge and skills

  • Strong coding skills (examples given: Go / Python / Java / C++) with an emphasis on designing for reliability and scale, and writing well-tested components.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development practices in GCP / AWS / Azure is a plus.
  • Experience or interest in end-to-end security across application and platform layers.
  • Ability to build tooling for comprehensive monitoring and deployment in multiple cloud environments.
  • Thrive in a customer-focused, cross-functional environment; proactive, positive attitude and willingness to take ownership.

Location

This role is hybrid (3-4 days a week in one of our SF Bay Area offices).
