Details
xAI is seeking an AI Tutor - Space Science Specialist to enhance its AI systems by providing high-quality input and labels using specialized software. You will work closely with technical teams to support the training of new AI tasks, refine annotation tools, and select and solve complex problems from advanced space science fields to improve model performance. This role requires comfort with gathering and providing data in text, voice, and video formats (annotations, audio recordings, video sessions) and the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Use proprietary software applications to provide input/labels on defined projects.
- Support and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data.
- Contribute to the training of new tasks, working closely with technical staff to develop and implement initiatives and technologies.
- Interact with technical staff to help improve the design of efficient annotation tools.
- Choose problems from space science disciplines aligned with your specialization and provide detailed solutions and evaluations of model responses.
- Regularly interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on given instructions.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Masterβs or PhD in astrophysics, astronomy, physics, or a highly related field.
- Expertise and specialization in a space science subdomain (examples given: galactic astronomy, extragalactic astronomy, observational astronomy, stellar astrophysics, high-energy astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, earth sciences, astroparticle physics, general relativity, interdisciplinary space sciences).
- Proficiency in reading and writing English (informal and professional).
- Strong ability to navigate information resources, databases, and online resources.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational capabilities.
- Solid reading comprehension and the ability to exercise autonomous judgment with limited data.
- Strong passion for technological advancement and innovation.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Advanced expertise demonstrated by multiple publications, preferably with first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Previous AI tutoring experience.
- Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
- Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.
Location and Other Expectations
- This is a remote position. Tutor roles may be full-time, part-time, or contractor positions depending on needs and candidate fit.
- Contractors: hours vary widely by project scope and availability. On average, most projects may involve at least 10 hours per week to achieve deliverables (not a fixed commitment). Contractors have flexibility to set their own hours.
- Tutor roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role-specific needs. For U.S. candidates, xAI cannot hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois at this time.
- xAI is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
- For those working from a personal device, supported devices are Chromebook, Mac with macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.
Compensation and Benefits
- U.S.-based candidates: $45/hour - $75/hour depending on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International compensation details provided during recruitment.
