The Community You Will Join:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Staff Analyst, Advanced Analytics - Risk Insights. In this role, you will play a critical part in executing the strategic direction of Airbnb's Payments Platform.
Our Payments platform organization has 2 domains:
- Payments and Commerce platform - facilitating money movement and exchange of value while also fueling growth for our business.
- Payments Compliance and Payments Risk - ensuring safe and efficient payment processing.
This role is in the Payments Risk and Compliance domain. The Staff Analyst, Advanced Analytics, Risk Insights role, reporting to the Director of Payments Analytics, will define the Analytics strategy and partner with product and operations in enabling world-class Risk capabilities, ensuring Airbnb is able to protect and grow our community. You’ll bring the latest thinking from the world of Machine Learning and Generative AI to shape the future of fraud detection at Airbnb. You’ll partner with functional experts in other business units across Airbnb to create a cohesive strategy in all key decision-making.

A Typical Day:
- Generating risk and compliance analytics reports that provide insights to the right audience at the right time.
- Analyzing risk and compliance data for insights and performance evaluation.
- Providing regular updates and reports to management and stakeholders.
- Assisting with analyzing risk performance and health, triaging the issue, and providing recommendation on the best course solution and optimization.
- Collaborating on Payments teams, including both payin and payout processing to ensure smooth end-to-end execution.
- Identifying pain points, friction areas, and improvement opportunities in the end-to-end payments journey.
- Driving Host and Guest advocacy to enhance payment experience.
- Building new payment strategies utilizing advanced data analytics to inform strategic decision-making.
- Staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in the payments landscape.
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations in partnership with finance.
- Ensuring accurate and efficient handling of payment transactions.
- Monitoring payment trends and implementing strategies to optimize payments processing.
- Providing guidance to maintain a robust and reliable payments infrastructure.
- Acting as a subject matter expert on payments risk detection, Machine Learning, and AI.
Your Expertise:
- 10+ years of industry experience in business analytics and a degree (Masters or PhD is a plus) in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research).
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and influencing skills.
- Experience supporting Payments teams and/or working closely with them.
- Expert skills in SQL and at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R).
- Working knowledge of schema design and high-dimensional data modeling (ETL framework like Airflow).
- Ability to work under conditions of ambiguity in a fast-growth environment.
- Experience working with Payments Risk including Machine Learning, Transaction Risk.
- Fintech experience preferred, along with experience collaborating with external auditors.
- Experience leading complex projects leveraging ML, operations, and external vendors.
- Strong sense of urgency and commitment to Airbnb’s mission of belonging.
Your Location:
This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites. The approved remote states include: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.
Pay Range:
$172,000 — $243,500 USD
