Details

Reddit is a community of communities built on shared interests, passion, and trust. Every day, Reddit users submit, vote, and comment on the topics they care most about. With 100,000+ active communities and approximately 126 million daily active unique visitors, Reddit is one of the internet’s largest sources of information.

The Safety and Moderation organization builds the tools that help moderators keep Reddit safe, healthy, and scalable. Moderators are community leaders and tastemakers; our job is to give them fast, reliable, and intuitive tooling so they can focus on cultivating great communities.

This role is completely remote friendly within the United States. If you live close to one of our physical office locations (San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City & Chicago) you may come into the office as often as you'd like.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy and build novel products and features.
  • Contribute to the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Review code and design docs, give feedback on product specs and mocks.
  • Lead a team of thoughtful, fast-moving, and motivated engineers; set and define standards that improve developer workflows and recommend best practices.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development.
  • Continuously learn and improve your technical and non-technical abilities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (examples noted: Go, Python, Rust, Ruby).
  • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and basics of Thrift or gRPC, with the ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: self-directed, innovative, biased toward action in fast-paced environments; comfortable with ambiguity and learning from failure.
  • Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment and the ability to discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits and income replacement programs
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Global benefit programs (workspace, professional development, caregiving support)
  • Family planning support
  • Gender-affirming care
  • Mental health & coaching benefits
  • Flexible vacation & paid volunteer time off
  • Generous paid parental leave

Pay Transparency & Other Notes

  • The base salary range for this U.S.-based position is $217,000 - $303,900 USD.
  • In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for equity (RSUs) and, depending on the position offered, may be eligible for a commission.
  • In select roles and locations, interviews may be recorded, transcribed and summarized by AI; candidates can opt out prior to scheduled interviews. Reddit collects certain categories of personal information during interviews and will use it to evaluate applications. Recordings are deleted promptly after a hiring decision.

Team / Impact

  • This is a high-impact role where you will drive technical and product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution for one of the largest sites in the world, focusing on moderator tooling and safety/moderation systems.
