Coinbase's Security Team focuses on protecting billions of dollars worth of digital assets, using tooling, automation, and strategic growth to safeguard the next billion users of crypto.

The Blockchain Security (BlockSec) team secures funds and data from protocols to wallets, focusing on the unique security challenges of blockchain and digital asset networks.

Responsibilities

• Identify security infrastructure gaps and lead cross-functional solutions.
• Perform security assessments, framework development, and threat modeling of blockchain protocols, smart contracts, and distributed ledger technology.
• Advise software engineering teams on code and architecture for internal smart contract development.
• Collaborate with internal tooling teams to enhance Coinbase blockchain security tools.
• Identify automation opportunities and deliver proofs of concept with detailed technical specifications.
• Investigate blockchain upgrades, changes, and innovations like zero-knowledge proofs.
• Publish blogs and present internal and external talks on vulnerabilities, incidents, and risks.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of blockchains, especially EVM chains, and a crypto-forward perspective.
• Extensive experience with architecture and threat modeling of security-critical backend crypto systems.
• Familiarity with threat models for crypto custodians and common vulnerabilities.
• Knowledge of fundamentals like blockchain explorers, funds tracing, bridging, DEXs, NFTs, and smart contracts.
• Awareness of recent innovations such as restaking and various EIPs.
• Leadership and mentorship capabilities.
• Experience in cross-functional roles or team leadership.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• 8+ years in blockchain, including at least 4 years in blockchain security.

Nice to Haves

• Knowledge of security architecture of non-EVM blockchains.
• Deep understanding of cryptography, including zk-SNARKs, Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), and Multi-Party Computation (MPC).

This is a full-time remote position targeting the EMEA region with a salary range detailed below along with bonus, equity, and benefits.
