The data engineering team develops and maintains robust data pipelines, builds trusted data sources, and creates analytics/data products that inject automation into data science processes, with a goal to empower users via self-serve analytics.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a foundational data layer (data marts) that serve as the single source of truth across Coinbase.
• Design and implement robust data pipelines, guaranteeing data quality and timely data delivery.
• Build developer tools to automate data science processes, including data transformation, modeling, and quality tooling.
• Deliver self-serve analytics products to empower users with accurate answers to their data inquiries.
• Design data models supporting data scientists leveraging blockchain data.
• Build tooling and pipelines to clean blockchain data from APIs, files, and databases.
• Develop data quality mechanisms to ensure data reliability and completeness.
• Apply blockchain knowledge creatively to write heuristics and models about on-chain activity.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, data science, data platform, machine learning, and analytics teams.
• Enable stakeholders to self-serve their own analytics by making blockchain data accessible.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of blockchain data including blocks, transactions, token transfers, contract calls, account and UTXO models, and labeling.
• Experience with blockchain data tools like Dune and Arkham.
• Proficiency in Python programming; Go experience is a plus.
• Expert-level SQL skills for querying, transformation, and performance optimization.
• Experience with other databases such as graph databases and key-value stores is a plus.
• Familiarity with data compute frameworks like Spark, Flink, Beam is a plus.
• Experience in designing, building, and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines for large datasets, including batch and streaming.
• Expertise in building and optimizing DAGs in Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
• Experience with data visualization tools like Superset, Hex, Looker, or Python visualization libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
• Understanding of best practices for data modeling including star and snowflake schemas.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices including unit testing, CI/CD, git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Expertise in prompt engineering for large language models (LLMs) and AI tools; experience with embeddings and vector search is a plus.
