Airbnb was born in 2007 when two Hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 4 million Hosts who have welcomed more than 1 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, Hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

You will join a cross-functional team of data scientists, analysts, engineers, product managers, and designers who build pricing and data products for Airbnb hosts. You will guide the technical development of next-gen algorithms to improve the Airbnb marketplace for guests and hosts.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will develop next-generation pricing guidance for hosts, one of Airbnb’s most important growth and monetization levers. You will develop algorithms to help millions of new and existing hosts to find prices that work for them. You will partner with product, engineering, and design leaders to bring these algorithms to life through product launches and continuous algorithm innovation.

A Typical Day:

  • Design and evaluate pricing algorithms using state-of-the-art causal machine learning and/or reinforcement learning techniques.
  • Write model specifications and scientific documents to clearly communicate ideas to other subject matter experts and cross-functional partners.
  • Work hand-in-hand with marketplace data science and algorithms engineering teams to develop, implement, and iterate quickly.
  • Partner with product, engineering, design, and data science teams to align on goals and deliverables. Work hand-in-hand with marketplace data science and algorithms engineering teams to develop, implement, and iterate quickly.
  • Advance the state-of-the-art for applied causal machine learning within Airbnb.

Your Expertise:

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Computer Science, Data Science, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 9+ years of relevant industry experience (6+ with a PhD). Domain experience in pricing or promotions preferred but not required.
  • Hands-on ‘builder’ experience in causal machine learning problems. Expert understanding of causal machine learning and reinforcement learning algorithms is a plus.
  • Strong programming (Python / Scala / Java / C++ or equivalent) skills. Experience with ML technologies such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Spark, Airflow.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with audiences of varying technical knowledge and seniority (up to Director).
  • Prior experience in multi-sided marketplaces is preferred.

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. While the position is Remote Eligible, you must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
