This role is part of the Institutional Product Group and specifically the Institutional Foundations team, which creates and maintains products for institutional customers (Custody, Commerce, Exchange, Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Advanced Trade) and supports features such as staking, governance and web3 gateways.
While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities
- Architect and develop distributed systems.
- Provide technical structure to teams and work closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps.
- Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables with technical expertise.
- Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
- Design and implement foundational infrastructure components used by every engineering team in production (e.g., dynamic configuration, secrets storage, container orchestration, etc.).
- Write high quality, well tested code to meet the needs of your customers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
- Passion for building an open financial system and belief in crypto/blockchain technology.
- Ability to balance individual contributor work with anchoring new projects, leading technical direction and mentoring other engineers.
Nice to haves
- Experience going through rapid company growth (from ~10 to 100s of engineers).
- Experience with Blockchains (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum).
- Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
- Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
- Experience building financial, high reliability or security systems.
- Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
Compensation & Pay Transparency
- The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
- Pay Range: $217,900β$217,900 CAD
