Details
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
The Billing Platform team builds and operates the infrastructure that turns product usage into revenue across Anthropic’s products (Claude.ai, the Developer Platform, Claude Code, etc.). This is production-critical infrastructure where correctness is non-negotiable — you’ll work closely with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting to build systems that scale with the business.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship billing capabilities end-to-end: pricing primitives, payment flows, contract and entitlement models, revenue data pipelines, and related systems depending on your surface area.
- Build for correctness first: design for idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails where financial correctness matters.
- Own interfaces and contracts: design billing APIs and revenue datasets that hide complexity and remain robust under change.
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for third-party billing, payment, and tax platforms; extend or build primitives around them as appropriate.
- Own the payments stack: authorization rates, retry logic, processing costs, automated dispute response, and fraud controls.
- Drive automation to reduce manual work: enterprise contract amendments, pricing config changes, billing support escalations, and quote-to-cash workflows.
- Operate what you ship: own SLOs for customer-facing flows, instrument the revenue pipeline so discrepancies surface before month-end close, and be on-call when necessary.
- Partner cross-functionally with Growth, Sales, Finance, Product, and Legal to balance competing needs and constraints.
Requirements
- 8+ years building backend or platform systems in production.
- 3+ years leading large-scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead.
- Track record of shipping correct, maintainable systems in fast-moving environments with shifting requirements.
- Strong focus on correctness and data integrity as first-class design concerns.
- Comfortable doing cross-functional work between engineering, Finance, Sales, Product, and Legal.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience (required).
Strong candidates may also have
- Experience building billing, payments, subscription, or fintech systems.
- Direct experience integrating or extending third-party billing/payment/tax platforms.
- Experience with revenue reconciliation, financial reporting pipelines, or audit-survivable systems.
- Experience in enterprise commerce (CPQ, quote-to-cash, contract management) and B2B billing operations.
- Owned payments optimization in a self-serve or PLG environment (authorization rates, payment cost, fraud, chargebacks).
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $320,000 - $405,000 USD.
Logistics
- Locations: San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY.
- Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more time).
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas and retain immigration counsel; sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role/candidate but they will make reasonable efforts if an offer is made.
- Education requirement: at least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
Additional notes
- Anthropic encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds and urges candidates to apply even if they do not meet every qualification. They provide guidance on acceptable recruiter communications and candidate AI usage policies.
