We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer with a unique blend of skills and a wealth of experience to contribute to our developer platform. In this role you will develop and maintain the backend for the developer platform, collaborate with colleagues across specialties, and design and implement scalable and efficient solutions tailored to the business needs.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the underlying infrastructure of the developer platform.
- Build new features for external developers such as SQL db as a service.
- Create a platform that is highly available, extremely reliable, low on latency, and at internet scale.
- Create and drive Storage as a Service strategy and the technical foundation for future features and experiences.
- Contribute to the entire development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- Review code and design docs, give feedback on product specs and mocks.
- Contribute meaningfully to team strategy and help create a collaborative and supportive team with a strong sense of ownership.
Requirements
- 7+ years of industry experience in backend, infrastructure, developer tools, or app platforms.
- Technical leadership in execution of large-scale projects as well as day-to-day troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Go, TypeScript, Redis, distributed SQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems focused on high availability and low latency.
- Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers and leading by example with strong software engineering best practices.
- Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software.
- Ability to work in a fully-remote environment and communicate complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: self-directed, innovative, biased toward action, comfortable with ambiguity.

Pay Transparency
The base salary range for this U.S.-based position is:
$217,000 - $303,000 USD
In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. Reddit provides a range of benefits to U.S.-based employees. In select roles and locations, interviews may be recorded, transcribed and summarized by AI; candidates can opt out prior to scheduled interviews.
