Details

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The API is the foundation customers, developers, and Anthropic's products build on, and it is scaling quickly. This Technical Program Manager will drive scaling and core-efficiency programs for the API stack, operating at the intersection of the API and the infrastructure it runs on (compute, databases, networking, and inference). The role focuses on connecting multiple workstreams, making cross-org dependencies visible, and owning end-to-end accountability so programs land predictably.

Responsibilities

  • Drive scaling and core efficiency programs for the API stack from architectural direction through sequenced, deliverable execution
  • Run multiple large programs simultaneously across infrastructure, networking, and the API layer
  • Act as the connective tissue between API, infrastructure, database, networking, and inference teams, owning cross-org dependencies end to end
  • Establish decision-making clarity: define who owns what, where trade-offs get made, and how isolated streams roll up into one program view
  • Surface risks, progress, and trade-offs to engineering leadership with the right altitude and cadence

Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical program management experience with a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional programs
  • Experience with API platforms, distributed systems, and core infrastructure programs; able to engage meaningfully with engineers who design and operate them
  • Experience driving scaling, performance, or efficiency programs for high-volume production systems and managing tradeoffs across performance, reliability, and cost
  • Experience coordinating programs spanning many partner organizations, managing cross-team dependencies, commitments, and escalations
  • Highly organized; able to manage multiple parallel workstreams across distributed teams
  • Comfortable in unstructured environments and skilled at creating clarity where decision ownership is unclear
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence without authority
  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Logistics

  • Locations: San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY
  • Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time
  • Minimum years of experience: correlates with internal job level requirements; posting explicitly states 7+ years as a fit guideline
  • Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas and retain an immigration lawyer to assist where possible

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Optional equity donation matching
  • Generous vacation and parental leave
  • Flexible working hours and office space for collaboration
